Sitemap URL Status Checker (100% FREE)

This sitemap URL status checker reads your XML sitemap and tests the URLs it lists. See HTTP responses, redirects and indexability clues, so you can find sitemap entries worth fixing.

Free, no signup. Our server reads the sitemap and requests up to 25 listed URLs. Nothing is stored.

Tests the first 25 listed URLs (for a sitemap index, from its first three sitemaps) and says how many were skipped. To check the XML structure itself, use the XML Sitemap Validator. Nothing is stored.

Enter a sitemap URL to test the pages it lists.

How it works

How to use the Sitemap URL Status Checker in three steps.

  1. Step 1

    Choose what to check

Enter the URL of an XML sitemap or sitemap index.

  2. Step 2

    Read the returned information

Review the status, redirect and canonical clues for each tested URL.

  3. Step 3

    Use the result

Update the sitemap to list the canonical URLs you want indexed, then check again.

Examples

Sitemap checks, and what they mean.

  • An old article URL

InputA sitemap listing a post that now redirects.

ResultRedirects (301), to the new URL.

List the final canonical URL instead of the redirect source.

  • A page that disappeared

InputA product removed from the store but left in the sitemap.

    ResultReturns 404.

Remove it from the sitemap, or restore the page if it was removed by mistake.

  • A noindex page

InputA thank you page included by a plugin.

    ResultMarked noindex.

Mixed signals: either index it or take it out of the sitemap.

Good to know

Your results, explained.

  • Valid XML isn't enough

A sitemap can be perfectly valid and still list broken, redirected or unintended URLs. This checker tests the listed URLs; the XML Sitemap Validator checks the file's structure.

  • Clues, not verdicts

A canonical pointing elsewhere or a noindex directive suggests the entry deserves review. A URL returning 200 is not proof Google has indexed it.

  • What this tool can't tell you

It tests the first 25 listed URLs (for an index, from its first three sitemaps) and reports how many it skipped. Large sitemaps need a fuller crawl.

  • What to do next

Remove outdated redirect sources and errors from the sitemap and keep the canonical URLs you want indexed.
